YOUR PRAYERS PLEASE
For the Sick, Our Special Intentions and Beloved Departed
If it were but known how great is the power of the good souls in Purgatory with the Heart of God,
and if we knew all the graces we can obtain through their intercession,
they would not be so much forgotten.
We must, therefore, pray much for them, that they may pray much for us.
-- St. John Vianney

STEWARDSHIP
There is so much giving that is wasted because it is not done for the soul. The world thinks that the highest things must be used for the lowest, for example, the intellect to make surplus wealth. The man of God believes that the lowest must be used for the highest, that is, money must be spent to help spread Divine Truth, to solace the afflicted and to cure the sick that their souls may be free to work out their salvation.

The truest answer to "You can't take it with you" is: "You can, provided you give it away." Then it is stored up as merit in the next life.

CLARION HERALD
Many persons may not be aware that EVERY registered Catholic of our Archdiocese MUST receive the Clarion Herald by order of the Archbishop. If you are not currently receiving it please contact the parish. The policy of the Archdiocese requires the parish to pay for each and every individual subscription if the individual is unwilling or unable to pay for it themselves. We encourage our parishioners to consider paying for their own Clarion Herald subscriptions so as to alleviate a huge financial burden to our parish. We would also like to thank those who graciously have agreed to pay for their own subscriptions.
REMEMBERING THE POOR
Here at St. Patrick's, there is a long tradition of service to the poor and underprivileged, symbolized by our special relationship of support for the Ozanam Inn.
As you pass the poor box on your way out of the Church after Mass, please remember God's beloved poor and their need for your prayerful support.

IN MEMORY OF 2009 ENVELOPES

Names are now being accepted for the 2009 “In Memory Of” listing on the back of the Sunday Bulletin. Envelope forms, found in the vestibule of the church, should be completed and returned to the rectory office no later than Friday, January 9, 2009.

To ensure proper spelling, recording, etc., all requests MUST be made by completing the designated envelope form.

The rectory office will NOT be responsible for requests received without the completed envelope form. The United States Postal Service is quite often heavily burdened with the amount of mail. Please do not rely on the USPS to deliver mailed envelopes before the final date: Friday, January 9, 2009.

During these next six weeks completed envelopes can be deposited in any Mass collection basket or hand delivered to the rectory office.

The office staff appreciates your understanding and cooperation in assisting with this annual project.

IRA DISTRIBUTIONS
If you are 70½ years of age and are starting to take required distributions on your IRA, you could be distributing tax free. Based on the Pension Protection Act signed by President Bush in August of 2006, a tax-free distribution may be made to St. Patrick’s Church through December 31, 2007. That means that anyone over the age of 70½ distributing up to $100,000 may do so if St. Patrick’s Church or any other qualified 501c3 charity is the recipient. all charitable distributions count toward your yearly required distribution. The distribution generates neither taxable income nor a tax deduction, so even if you do not itemize your tax return you still receive the benefit. Remember, all tax free distributions must be made prior to December 31, 2007. For more information about tax-free distributions to St. Patrick’s, please call the Catholic Foundation of the Archdiocese of New Orleans: (504) 596-3043.

RULES FROM I.R.S. FOR CHARITABLE CONTRIBUTION RECEIPTS
Effective January 1, 2007, parishioners who itemize deductions must have bank records or receipts from the parish in order to deduct their charitable contributions. This means that parishioners who put cash (or coins) in the collection basket will no longer be able to deduct these contributions because they will have neither bank records nor receipts to verify them. Currently, most parishes track and provide receipts for contributions of $250 or more in order to accommodate parishioners who need to document these contributions.
To comply with the new rules, a parishioner needs a cancelled check or other bank record, or a written receipt that shows the name of the parish and the date and the amount of contribution. The rules relating to contributions of $250 or more remain in place. Parishioners are encouraged to make contributions by check, since a cancelled check or other bank record will satisfy the new requirements; parishioner envelope; or automatic debit.
At St. Patrick’s all contributions made via envelope are tracked to provide written verification of these contributions.
TRAVELING CATHOLICS
Traveling Catholics can go on line at: www.masstimes.org to locate Catholic churches along with Mass times, adoration, reconciliation, religious devotions, etc. in other cities/states. The information is also available by phone: 1-410-676-6000.
THE MASS IS THE GREATEST FORM OF CHRISTIAN CHARITY...
To schedule a Mass for someone living or deceased, please fill out the Mass Form envelope found in the vestibule of the church and deliver it to the rectory office, or place it in the collection basket. Completion of the Mass Form envelope will ensure proper recording of dates, names, etc.

Alternately, you can download this form and fill it out and return it to the rectory.
